not much to say....
So basically it was a nice date. I am not sure what else to add. He was late but as soon as he showed up he offered his id- which had all the info he had given me. Then I asked him if I could look through his phone and he let me. He did have 1 questionable message but other than that he seemed decent.

Maybe in today's on-line dating world checking IDs is appropriate, but it seems odd to me. And checking his cell phone seems quite distrustful. That would be a big turn off for me. I'm surprised he called you back. After all, he is allowed to date other women just like you are trying to date other guys.
You don't know what she considered a questionable message. It could have been something like:
"Come see your 5 children!!!!! you never send money you asshole."
or
"You promised you would help hide the body,come over tonight at 3am."
or
"You still owe me 300$ for the hookers last night."
I would consider these messages questionable.
